Everything you must know before appearing for NEET UG 2026

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Educational Qualification
Must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry & Biology/Biotechnology as core subjects. Minimum marks: 50% (General), 45% (PwD), 40% (SC/ST/OBC).

Age Limit
Minimum age: 17 years as on 31st December of admission year. No upper age limit as per Supreme Court order.

Number of Attempts
As per Supreme Court ruling — no restriction on number of attempts. Candidates can appear as many times as required.

Nationality
Indian citizens, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and Foreign nationals are eligible. Separate merit lists are prepared for different categories.
EXAM DAY RULES

Reporting Time
Report at exam centre at least 90 minutes before the exam. Entry gates close 30 minutes before start. Late entry is NOT allowed under any circumstances.

Admit Card & Photo ID
Carry printed admit card (digital/mobile not accepted) + one valid photo ID: Aadhaar, Passport, Voter ID, Driving Licence or PAN card. Both are mandatory.

Dress Code
Wear light-coloured clothes with half sleeves. No full-sleeve clothes, jackets, or caps. Sandals/slippers preferred. Metal accessories strictly not allowed.

OMR Sheet Rules
Use only black ballpoint pen. Fill circles completely and darkly. Do NOT use whitener, overwrite, or fold the OMR. Mistakes on OMR are final — no correction allowed.

Section B Attempt Rule
In Section B (15 questions per subject), attempt any 10 only. If more than 10 are answered, only the first 10 will be evaluated.

Malpractice & Misconduct
Any cheating, impersonation, or use of unfair means leads to 3-year ban from NEET and possible criminal action under NMC Act 2019.

Scorecard Validity
NEET scorecard is valid for 3 years for MBBS/BDS admission. Results are declared on nta.ac.in and neet.nta.nic.in.
